Whether your staff are intermittently popping into the office or steadfastly working from home this winter, professional life isn’t plain sailing for any of us at the moment. Irrespective of where your employees are based however, work environments can make all the difference when it comes to workplace wellbeing and professional productivity.

With that in mind, we’ve created a quick guide on how to clean office blinds. Your office blinds are unlikely to be the focus of your cleaning efforts, which is why this workplace fixture is often neglected. With the dark evenings drawing in, and many staff members seeing little daylight during the week, workplace windows offer an all-important glimpse of the outside world, and a much-needed dose of vitamin D. Keeping their fittings clean and dust-free can brighten the appearance of workspaces, and help make offices feel lighter and cleaner.

Time to get dusting! Here are our top tips for cleaning office blinds…

1. How to clean roller blinds

The cleaning products you use on your roller blinds will depend on the material they are made from. Be sure to check the label before you get scrubbing.

For a quick clean, simply unroll the blind, spritz the surface with an appropriate cleaner, and wipe down with a cloth. Repeat this process on the reverse of the blind. For a deeper clean, remove the blind from the wall and pop it in a bath or bucket full of water mixed with a mild detergent. Allow the blind to soak for 1-2 hours, before hanging it up to dry. Once dry, simply reattach your freshly cleaned blinds.

2. How to clean venetian blinds

These horizontally slatted blinds can be fiddly to clean, as they are narrow and prone to collecting dust. To keep venetian blinds looking their best, regular dusting with a feather (or fluffy) duster is essential. For an even more convenient clean, order a “venetian blind cleaner” – a handy gadget that will dust multiple slats simultaneously. If your blinds become sticky, stained, or need a deeper clean, a damp cloth and multi-surface spray should do the trick.

3. How to clean vertical blinds

Research which cleaning products are suitable for your vertical fabric blinds. Equipped with this information, you can give your blinds a regular wipe-down using a damp cloth to keep them in good condition. To quickly remove dirt, you could also give them a “going over” with a vacuum cleaner (soft brush attachments work especially well).

When it is time to give your vertical office blinds a deeper clean, dust them down, treat any stains with a suitable stain remover, then unhook them. Once loose, your blinds can be soaked in warm water and a mild detergent, just like the roller blinds above. Hang them up to dry before popping them back in place.
