Getting your space spick and span may feel like a positive step to take in spring (hence ‘spring cleaning’), but as the weather changes for the worse when September and especially October rolls around, it can be easy to postpone an autumnal seasonal office scrub in favour of cosier activities.
It may be less fun, but a good deep clean before autumn and winter set in is just as (if not more) important than a spring clean. In this blog, our commercial cleaning experts will be explaining why an autumn clean is a crucial task and which jobs you need to include on your autumn cleaning checklist.
1. Temperature changes mean more bacteria
With hot summer nights and refreshing breezes now off the agenda, autumn forces many of us to close our windows and start making use of central heating once again. This is a recipe for bacteria growth as microbes and dust-mite allergens flourish in warmer, damper, staler indoor conditions.
To keep on top of the situation, eliminating smells and keeping allergy-prone staff more comfortable, a very thorough hoovering or carpet deep clean (which moves all furniture to get at hard-to-reach places) is a good idea.
2. Windows let in less light
Now that we are facing shorter days and less light all round, it’s important to make the most of the daylight that autumn has to offer. Keeping windows clean and clear of dirt, grime and cobwebs (which become more common at this time of year) will make a small but noticeable difference to the look and feel of your professional space.
3. Summer generates dust and pollen
We all know just how dusty and covered in pollen things can get during the summer months, but it’s not always easy to stay on top of the mess with the season in full swing and windows left wide open to combat the heat. Once summer is over, however, it’s time to tackle that build up and reside – so get dusting and polishing!
4. Pests invade in the autumn
As the weather gets colder and wetter, and food sources become less plentiful in the wild, your space can become a haven for unwanted wildlife. Spiders are especially likely to make an entry from late August all the way to November, which makes dusting and hoovering an important task at this time of year. Rats and mice are also likely to invade in autumn, so staying on top of mess – particularly kitchen crumbs – is absolutely fundamental for businesses keen to stay pest-free.
